Editorial Methodology
This page exists so you can judge the comparisons on this site rather than trust them. We compare tour listings, official visitor information and recent traveller feedback. We do not operate or personally conduct these tours, and nothing here is written as if we did. The Mendenhall Glacier tours comparison sits on the homepage.
What this site is
An independent comparison of the guided trips that reach Mendenhall Glacier from Juneau — canoe paddles on Mendenhall Lake, guided trail hikes, whale-watching and glacier combos, cruise-terminal shuttles, helicopter glacier landings, dog-sled trips and seaplane flightseeing — plus the practical information a visitor needs before booking one. We are not a tour operator, a travel agency or a seller of travel. We hold no bookings, take no payments and have no staff in Alaska.
Every booking happens on the operator's own platform under their terms. If something goes wrong with a trip, the operator and the platform are who you deal with, not us.
Where the tour data comes from
Prices, durations, ratings, review counts, inclusions, age limits and cancellation terms are read directly off each operator's own listing on GetYourGuide or Viator and reproduced with the date they were read, most recently August 2026. Every tour page carries the same fields in the same order so the trips can be compared line by line, and each one states its own "price last checked" date.
We do not copy operator marketing descriptions. Where an itinerary time or an inclusion is quoted, it comes from the listing's own itinerary block, which is also where the time-at-the-glacier figures on this site come from.
Where the destination information comes from
Visitor center fees, opening hours, trail status and access rules are checked against US Forest Service information for the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area and recent first-hand visitor reports, then dated on the page. The same applies to the details the combo listings gloss over: how far the nearest city bus stop is from the visitor center, what the ice-cave situation actually is after years of collapse on the west side, and which months the whale-watching guarantees run.
Where sources disagree, we say so and pick the better-evidenced number. Climate and season figures are long-term averages from published records for Juneau, not a forecast.
How traveller feedback is used
Traveller feedback reviewed: thousands of verified reviews across the tours compared, plus the platforms' own category sub-scores where published.
We quote reviews with the reviewer's first name, country and the month they travelled, exactly as published, and we do not edit them into something more flattering. Where a review states a limitation, such as a hike tougher than its listing grade or a combo that felt rushed at the glacier stop, we quote that too. We never write testimonials. Where a listing is new and carries few reviews, we say so on its page rather than borrowing praise from elsewhere.
What we cannot verify
We do not ride along on the tours, meet the guides or audit safety records. We cannot tell you whether Mendenhall Lake will be calm on the morning you paddle, whether the cloud ceiling will let a helicopter land on the ice that day, or whether a listed inclusion appeared on the day.
We also cannot see live availability or the price you will be quoted for your date. The figures here are starting prices at the time of the check; the number that matters is the one on the checkout page.
How affiliate links affect this
Links to tours are affiliate links. If you book through one, the platform pays a commission and you pay the same price you would pay going directly. The full arrangement is set out in the affiliate disclosure.
Commission does not decide which tours appear, the order they sit in, or what is said about them. The cheapest way to the glacier on this site, the shuttle, earns the least and still gets a full page, and the site's plainest warnings, about weather scrubs, sit on the helicopter trips that would pay the most.
Corrections
Prices move, operators change hands and trails close. If a number here is out of date, tell us what you found and when you were there. Corrections get made and the check date on the page is updated with them.
